The Love Story
One night Alexia and I had dinner at her parents where I told Alexia before that I wanted to take her dad to come see the house I was interested in buying. Alexia insisted on coming as she wanted to see the house before I buy it. I told her we would be a long time because I wanted her dad to take a few measurements but assured her I wouldn’t do anything without her seeing it also. She understood and thankfully didn’t push it further. There was no house I needed to take her dad to, instead I took him to a bar, ordered a few drinks and asked Spiro if I could marry Alexia. He said absolutely, we laughed together and sealed it with a hug. The weeks that followed were hard to organise, as I knew Alexia wanted her ring from House of K’dor, as according to her, “there is no greater gift to show your love than a K’dor ring”. Of course, this made matters harder as House of K’dor is based in Sydney. I set up an appointment as soon as I could and again had to tell Alexia a little white lie, as to not spoil a surprise.
I proposed to Alexia on our 3rd anniversary. I had told her I planned a Gala dinner for us, and to be ready by a certain time. It was Friday June 29, 2018. I organised a chauffer in a Mercedes Maybach to pick her up. The car drove us to a Mansion up in Beaumont where myself and Ilario, best known as Mr Wedding, set up the outside deck which had the most breathtaking views overlooking the city way below us. I had I Do Cinema there also to film the proposal.
I proposed and we spent the weekend there, having our family’s come past for lunch the next day to congratulate us.
Tell us more about the dress!
My dress was by Alin Le’Kal. Alin designed it himself having in mind that it was going to be in summer overseas, I had told him I wanted something that will be light and cool so I don’t get too hot, but I also wanted a slight puffy princess feel to it. With numerous trips to Melbourne to have fittings, and try on my dress. I knew this was the perfect dress to me. It had every single thing I was looking for. It was perfect to what I was personally looking for. And it makes it even more special because my dress was the one and only wedding dress I had ever put on.
What advice would you give future brides?
Don't rush anything!! I know it can get so stressful for brides, but rushing things will leave you with bigger problems than the one you started with. Don't force things, my sister told me everything will fall into place perfectly, I didn't believe her and tried to take matters into my own hands but in actual fact, my stressing didn't lead me anywhere, it didn't speed up the outcome, and everything really did just fall into place. Also things can go wrong on your wedding day (lots of things did on ours, like my makeup lasting 5 minutes because it was so hot and I ended up sweating all off), but you just need to take a breath, laugh and just go with it, the things that went wrong you'll end up laughing about anyway, and if you don't you'll wish you hadn't let it bother you.
